Conservative Group Hits AOC with Ethics Complaint

The Girl Scouts are the latest target for conservatives because... liberal Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was a girl scout. Ocasio-Cortez's campaign also paid Chakrabarti's corporation more than $18,000 in 2017 for "strategic consulting".

"Representative Ocasio-Cortez has not only violated the most basic congressional ethics laws on the books, she has done so repeatedly", said FACT's executive director, Kendra Arnold.

Ocasio-Cortez, Chakrabarti and the lawyer representing the political committees deny wrongdoing. Critics say such entities allow both donors and vendors to mask their activities, making it hard for the public to trace who is giving to campaigns and profiting from them.

Federal rules require candidates and committees to disclose in filings with the Federal Election Commission how they spend donors' money. "Consistent with FEC regulations, precedent and practice, the FEC's Reports and Analysis Division confirmed that payments by the PACs and candidates to this vendor, Brand New Congress LLC, did not need to be broken out by subcategories of service, nor would subvendors need to be itemized". She has called dark money "the enemy to democracy".

Brand New Campaign LLC was registered as a private company in the state of DE in May 2016, and in Tennessee in February 2017.

Ocasio-Cortez was the breakout star of that effort, toppling a veteran congressman, Joseph Crowley, in the Democratic primary before winning last November's general election.

Farhadi handles this emotionally charged tale extremely well, and it's a treat to watch Cruz and Bardem play off each other . She also told us that she learned that playing a blue character meant, unfortunately, being in the makeup trailer at 3 a.m.

Gregg Re of Fox News reports the FEC complaint asserts that Chakrabarti established two PACs, the Brand New Congress PAC and Justice Democrats PAC, and then systematically transferred more than $885,000 in contributions received by those PACs to the Brand New Campaign LLC and the Brand New Congress LLC - companies that, unlike PACs, are exempt from reporting all of their significant expenditures.

Among its clients were two PACs - Justice Democrats and Brand New Congress - which worked to recruit progressive and nontraditional candidates to run for Congress, he said.

Chakrabarti said the groups made no secret of the plans.

"We live in a society where if you don't have a job, you're left to die", Ocasio-Cortez said.

Andrew Kerr's report had barely hit cyberspace before the National Legal and Policy Center (NLPC) filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission alleging that, contrary to campaign laws, Ocasio-Cortez and Chakrabarti funneled almost $1 million in contributions from political action committees Chakrabarti established to private companies that he also controlled. He discussed the strategy in a 2016 MSNBC interview, and the PACs posted explanations about the LLC's role on their websites.
