And Then There Were Four: Yet ANOTHER Virginia Official Embroiled in Controversy

Virginia's political crisis continued to deepen on Thursday over the race and sexual misconduct scandals engulfing the state's three leading Democrats.

His admission came after a conservative media website published a photo on Friday from Northam's page in his 1984 medical school yearbook showing one man wearing blackface beside another masked figure in robes of the white supremacist group the Ku Klux Klan.

Northam first said he may have been one of the two in the photo. At the presser, Northam denied being either of the men in the photo, but did admit to putting shoe polish on his face and moonwalking in order to impersonate Michael Jackson in a dance contest that same year.

Herring, who a week ago called on Northam to resign, issued a statement Wednesday, saying, "In the days ahead, honest conversations and discussions will make it clear whether I can or should continue to serve as attorney general".

Fairfax had always been considered a rising star in the party who drew praise for taking a stand against a ceremony honoring Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee just last month.

"At no time did she express to me any discomfort or concern about our interactions, neither during that encounter, not during the months following it, when she stayed in touch with me, nor the past 15 years", he said. Fairfax has strongly rejected the accusations, and Tyson released a statement on Wednesday saying, "What began as consensual kissing quickly turned into a sexual assault". She explained that she had later told a wider circle of confidants about the assault in the wake of the growing #MeToo movement, including a Washington Post reporter. Fairfax has forcefully denied the allegation. NBC News reported that Fairfax lashed out over the allegations during a private meeting Monday and tried to discredit Tyson.

In a "Hannity" exclusive, Mulvaney said he watched the Democrats in the House chamber as Trump declared that "America will never be a socialist country", and not a single one of them stood up.

If Fairfax resigns or declines to accept the governor's job while he deals with his own scandal, the next person in the line of succession would be Democratic Attorney General Mark Herring.

After calling for Northam's ouster, Attorney-General Herring, 57, apologised on Wednesday for having worn blackface to impersonate a rapper at a 1980 college party.

Gov. Ralph Northam was already hanging by a thread over a racist photo in his 1984 medical school yearbook.

Trump accused Democrats Thursday of political bias, tweeting that "If the three failing pols were Republicans, far stronger action would be taken".

Republican Del. David Yancey was tied with Democrat Shelly Simonds after all votes were counted in the 2017 Virginia election. That's because of a freaky win in 2018 in which Cox's election run was so close to his opponent that his name was pulled out of a ceramic bowl designed at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. That single game of chance allowed Republicans to hold a majority in the House of Delegates - and may now wipe out virtually all the gains of the 2017 Democratic sweep.

Some Northam supporters are scrambling to show that the governor still has backing among members of his party.

Asked earlier this week about the allegations against Fairfax, a series of high-profile Democrats reiterated their call for Northam to resign but wouldn't engage on that possibility in regard to Fairfax.

When pressed by ABC News, aides said they did not know what the congressman did with that information, but that he told Tyson that he agreed to speak with the Washington Post.
