PSG Not Giving Up On Gueye Pursuit

Paris Saint-Germain have tested Everton's resolve with yet another offer for Idrissa Gueye, but have the Toffees taken it?

That would satisfy the financial side of the equation but unless Marcel Brands and Marco Silva have a ready-made replacement in mind, it would leave the Blues short in midfield and there was unconfirmed talk in France yesterday that the Portuguese had threatened to resign if Gueye was sold.

Gueye is reported to have handed in a written transfer request after the French club had a bid of £21.5million turned down by the Merseysiders.

However, he was absent from Everton's squad in their recent 1-0 victory over Huddersfield, with rumours circulating that was down to his looming departure.

"I know Idrissa very well, he is a good professional and a fantastic boy", Silva said Friday.

"After the match, I tried to find out if something new has happened because I expected your question and there's nothing new".

Mexican officials have maintained they had nothing to do with the policy, calling it a unilateral decision by the United States. But the new policy has been sharply criticized by opponents on both sides of the border.

"He has a minor problem with his groin. There have been no new offers".

"The board never told me the deal would be done or not".

"He is one player we do not think to lose in this market".

"I asked 10 minutes ago if there was something new, but there is not".

"Our goal as a team is really clear, to do better than last season in the table", Silva added.

"We know they are strong in the counter-attack with a solid block and fast players. Of course after some moments it can become a matter of money, but from my point of view he is a really important player for us", Silva is quoted by the press as saying on Sunday.
