Bohemian Rhapsody faces #TimesUp backlash following Golden Globes win

"I'm not fooling myself; next year could be different".

Three films featuring African American cast members were nominated for best dramatic picture this year - "Black Klansman", "If Beale Street Could Talk" and "Black Panther", along with "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "A Star Is Born".

Hosted by Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh, the 76th annual Golden Globes had its fair share of standout moments (although some might argue that past year was more interesting).

Rami Malek's turn as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody earned the Mr Robot star a Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama nomination, too.

Despite the look being a victor all on its own, it called to mind the Jean Louis dress Judy wore in A Star Is Born back in 1954.

It was, hands down, a big night for the team of Bohemian Rhapsody at the Golden Globes. Lady Gaga accepted the award alongside songwriters Anthony Rossomando, Andrew Wyatt, and Mark Ronson, who delivered a speech. Glenn Close won Best Actress (Drama) for The Wife; Olivia Colman won in the other category for her Queen Anne in The Favourite.

The comedienne then called the Academy and asked them if they would take Hart back, to which they apparently said yes. Comedian Kevin Hart says he is " evaluating " his decision to step down as host of the 91st Academy Awards .

"Hey Jeff, I wish you were my dad", quipped Samberg, addressing actor Jeff Bridges, who was presented with a lifetime achievement award.

But Rhys lost the award for best actor in a TV series to Richard Madden, who won for his role as a British security officer in the BBC/Netflix political thriller "Bodyguard". Green Book also won best screenplay for a motion picture.

Melissa McCarthy, a nominee in the same category for "Can You Ever Forgive Me?" sparkled in deep purple with silver star accents, while Regina King glittered in a shimmering, strapless pink column gown. These included Alfonso Cuaron's heartfelt Roma and civil rights dramedy Green Book.

Bradley Cooper's "Star Is Born" remake - a critical and commercial smash - had been seen as the favorite. Best Comedy Series went to The Kominsky Method, a sedate option when you consider that Barry, The Good Place, Kidding and The Marvelous Mrs Maisel were on the shortlist.

Gaga is known to wear outlandish styles during award shows, so the classic choice surprised some.
