Pelosi offers chilling impression of Trump

Vice President Mike Pence and other senior Trump administration officials met on Saturday with Democratic congressional staffers to try to break a deadlock over a proposed border wall and end a two-week-old partial government shutdown.

Democrats could demand other concessions from the White House, such as protections for immigrants brought illegally to the United States as children, known as Dreamers, or changes to other spending provisions.

OPM's move comes after Trump issued an executive order last week freezing federal workers' pay for 2019, following through on a proposal he announced earlier in the year.

But the president is not about to back down and could escalate the situation into a crisis so he can build the wall without the approval of Congress.

The debate was a "very important battle to win from the standpoint of safety, number one, (and) defining our country and who we are", Trump told reporters at the White House before leaving for a short trip to the Camp David presidential retreat. You can call it whatever you want. Collins and Cory Gardner (R-CO) both said the Senate should consider funding the government without Trump's desired wall money.

"It has nothing to do with politics".

The President has also claimed broad support overall for his border wall, even as support for the project has slipped. "It isn't cost effective", Pelosi added.

He told reporters as he departed the White House for meetings at Camp David that he'll be asking the companies to design "a attractive steel product" and "we'll use that as our barrier".

"Look, if Harry Truman couldn't nationalize the steel industry during wartime, this President doesn't have the power to declare an emergency and build a multibillion dollar wall on the border", Schiff said.

Two vulnerable Republican senators up for re-election in 2020 - Cory Gardner of Colorado and Susan Collins of ME - have broken ranks to back approving the budget and ending the shutdown.

Steelers WR Antonio Brown wants to play with... the 49ers?
During the incident, Brown yelled "I'm done" while walking off the field, a source told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport . Brown's current deal with the Steelers runs through 2021, with an average annual salary of $17 million.

A Democratic aide familiar with the meeting said Democratic staffers urged the administration to reopen the government, arguing that progress on the contentious issue of border security would be hard while the government was closed.

Former Canadian prime minister Kim Campbell used the same expletive to describe U.S. President Donald Trump as a newly elected Democratic congresswoman who is now under fire for her comments.

A Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll showed that 50 per cent of the public blame Trump for the shutdown and 7 per cent blame Republican lawmakers, against 32 per cent who blame Democrats.

On the subject of federal employees working without pay, the president said those workers would want him to "keep going" on his fight for the wall.

"It's being talked about", Pence told Fox News.

The fate of those Democratic bills is unclear.

Other federal agencies were also hobbled, including the Justice Department, Commerce Department and departments of Agriculture, Labor, Interior and Treasury.

What does the partial shutdown mean?

Pelosi said she didn't like the language and wouldn't use it herself, but that she wouldn't censor her colleagues.
