Netanyahu to talk post-US Syria with Trump advisor

Last month U.S. president Donald Trump announced the withdrawal of around 2,000 soldiers from Syria, deployed to support the SDF, claiming Daesh had been defeated.

Kalın's comments came after White House National Security Adviser John Bolton, speaking about the USA -backed YPG, said he would stress in talks with Turkish officials this week, including President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, that the Kurds must be safeguarded.

"We don't think the Turks ought to undertake military action that's not fully coordinated with and agreed to by the United States, at a minimum, so they don't endanger our troops but also so that they meet the president's requirement that the Syrian opposition forces that have fought with us are not endangered".

Trump had said in his December 19 withdrawal announcement that US forces "have defeated ISIS in Syria, my only reason for being there during the Trump Presidency", and added in a video posted to Twitter, "Now it's time for our troops to come back home".

Bolton's comments are the first public confirmation that the withdrawal process has been slowed down.

The announcement, which took officials in Washington and allies overseas by surprise, contributed to Jim Mattis' decision to resign as U.S. defense secretary and prompted concern that Islamic State could stage a comeback.

He said the withdrawal would take place in northeastern Syria, while some forces may remain to the south at the al-Tanf garrison as part of efforts to counter Iran's presence. "That's what the president said, the ones that fought with us".

When apprehended by police, the man declared that he had carried out a terrorist attack. "It was very very scary", Clack said. The vehicle barreled down the narrow street, which was packed with pedestrians, slamming into a number of them, police said.

During his meeting with Netanyahu, Bolton was expected to explain that some U.S. troops based in Syria to fight IS will shift to Iraq with the same mission and that the al-Tanf base would remain.

The U.S. -backed force known as the Syrian Democratic Forces are believed to be holding hundreds of IS foreign fighters in detention centers in northern Syria, as well as their families in SDF-run camps in the north. "But we are decimating ISIS", Trump told reporters, using a different acronym for IS.

He stressed that Turkey's aim was to clear Syria of all terror groups, to protect its territorial integrity and provide political and social conditions for the safe return of Syrians to their country by protecting lives of the civilians.

Bolton warned Turkey against taking any military action in Syria without consent from the US, ahead of his planned trip to the country Monday. "That a terror organization can not be allied with the U.S.is self-evident", he said.
