The brother of fallen police officer Ronil Singh broke down in tears while thanking the law enforcement officials who apprehended his brother's murderer during a press conference on Friday.

Authorities said they identified but won't yet name the man who killed Singh of the 12-person Newman Police Department on Wednesday and has not been captured. Newman is located about 100 miles southeast of San Francisco.

Singh had stopped a suspected drunken driver in the town of Newman when he was fatally wounded and managed to fire back but didn't hit his attacker, authorities have said. He doesn't belong here. The Modesto Bee newspaper reports that he was caught either Thursday night or Friday morning.

Newman police chief Randy Richardson explained in a news conference on December 27 that Singh had come to the United States with the intent of becoming a police officer.

He said one of the last photos Singh posed for was of him standing in front of an American flag and next to a Christmas tree outside the Newman police station.

Singh, who'd been with the department since 2011, lived in Modesto with his wife Anamika, and their infant son.

The rules give Sears flexibility to extend the deadline or make other changes that might promote more bids. Liquidation - which would have been halted if a buyer stepped forward - is set to begin in two weeks.

English was Singh's third language and he had a thick accent but took speech classes to improve his communication, the chief said.

The fatal incident happens in the midst of a partial federal government shutdown that U.S. President Donald Trump has initiated because he wants Congress to allocate $5 billion towards building a wall at the U.S. border with Mexico.

Mr Trump tweeted about Mr Singh's killing Thursday, saying it was "time to get tough on Border Security". He ended the post with: "Build the Wall!" "You've never seen a man smile more than him". They intentionally lied to us.

"This is a criminal illegal alien with prior criminal activity that should have been reported to ICE", Christianson said.

As he clutched the left side of his chest, the distraught sibling said he'd been waiting for the capture of his brother's killer. Arriaga is suspected to have shot the officer within minutes after being pulled over. Officers found Singh who had been shot, and he was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. He has been described as a Hispanic man with black hair. Investigators were examining the vehicle, police said.

"This is new for our department", Richardson said. Admirers have talked this week about his determination to be a police officer and his love of ocean fishing and other exploits. He previously served with the Merced County Sheriff's Department, according to a statement from California Gov.
