The MLB community lost two of its members Friday when free agent infielder Luis Valbuena and former player Jose Castillo died together in a vehicle accident.

According to multiple reports, their auto hit a rock in the road which sent them the vehicle out of control and ultimately led to their deaths.

Both Valbuena and Castillo and the other two teammates played in the Venezuelan winter league for the Cardenales - the home team for Barquisimeto.

Teammate Carlos Rivero, a former infielder for the Arizona Diamondbacks, was in the front seat of the vehicle alongside his chauffeur, Raul Alvarez. He also suited up for the Seattle Mariners, Cleveland Indians, Chicago Cubs and Houston Astros.

Castillo, 37, played the first four of his five major-league seasons with the Pirates from 2004-07. He had a career.226 batting average with 114 home runs and 367 RBIs during his Major League Baseball tenure.

He split 2008 between the Giants and Astros, then finished his career by playing three professional seasons in Japan.
