"The digging of tunnels constitutes a blatant violation of Israeli sovereignty", IDF Brig.

"More broadly, we call on Iran and all of its agents to stop their regional aggression and provocation, which pose an unacceptable threat to Israeli and regional security", Bolton said.

On Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Brussels.

Lebanon's President Michel Aoun ordered his country's armed forces and security agencies to "closely monitor" Israel's operation against Hezbollah cross-border tunnels on Tuesday, as officials on both sides of the border sought to avoid escalation.

Netanyahu said he discussed the operation with Pompeo and called the tunnels a violation of a United Nations resolution aimed at ending a 2006 war between Israel and Shiite militant group Hezbollah. Israel has spent years attempting to tackle a network of tunnels from the Gaza Strip into Israel and has used a variety of methods to destroy tunnels and prevent them from being rebuilt.

A Hezbollah-affiliated news outlet released a number of photographs of Israeli troops and engineering vehicles along the border, apparently taking part in the newly launched operation to destroy the Lebanese terror group's cross-border attack tunnels.

Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee said the Lebanese government was responsible for the build-up of the tunnels. He said some areas near the border fence had been closed off.

"In 2012, we identified the "Conquering the Galilee" plan (Hezbollah leader) Nasrallah has been talking about, and it includes a surprising component of offensive tunnels".

He has previously warned Israel that Hezbollah will react strongly against Israeli targets in response to any Israeli attack.

In the audio, it is possible to make out the prince saying "Don't worry", to which Macron responds "I am worried". Putin is under fire, at least most recently, for the Russian seizure of Ukrainian ships and sailors.

The IDF added that it had "enhanced its presence and readiness in the Northern Command and is prepared for various scenarios".

Since their last fought war in 2006, Hezbollah has strengthened its military capabilities significantly with an estimated arsenal of some 100,000 and 120,000 short-and medium-range missiles and rockets, as well as several hundred long-range missiles trained on the Jewish State.

There has been increased attention in Israel in recent days over Israeli officials' concerns regarding Iranian activity in Lebanon.

Since the start of that war, more than 200 strikes were carried out by Israel according to its military.

Before his departure, Netanyahu hinted at the Israel operation.

A Hezbollah official told al-Nahar that Netanyahu was "in crisis" and had manufactured the confrontation in order to distract from his legal and political troubles.

Israel and Hezbollah have avoided any major conflict across the Lebanese-Israeli border since their last war in 2006, though Israel has mounted attacks in Syria targeting what it said were advanced weapon deliveries to the Shi'ite Muslim group.

Israel also faces terror tunnels in the south from the Hamas terror organization in Gaza.
