NASA selects 9 US companies to make lunar robotic payloads

Business Insider has independently confirmed that a company called Astrobotic Technology will be one of those partners. In 2017, Moon Express introduced its MX family of modular, scalable robotic exploration vehicles created to collapse the cost of access to the Moon and other deep space destinations. The first missions could launch next year, as NASA only recently called for proposals for experiments to study the Moon.

Earlier this month The Washington Post reported that NASA had ordered reviews of workplace culture in both SpaceX and Boeing following the podcast of featuring Musk went public.

These nine companies will compete for a chunk of a $2.6 billion under the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Commercial Lunar Payload Services program.

"The space agency has been working on plans to build a ": "a space station to be built sometime in the 2020s. "Of course, the technological piece was a big piece of it", Bridenstine said. Also, Russia plans to send a telescope to the dark side of the Moon to gather more data on that part of our natural satellite.

Moon Express, a privately funded USA commercial space company founded in 2010 with the goal of providing low cost, frequent access to the Moon for science, exploration and commerce while seeking new resources to benefit Earth.

On Thursday, NASA named nine USA companies that will bid to deliver science and technology payloads for the space agency as a one of the first steps towards long-term scientific study and human exploration of the Moon and eventually Mars.

"This is a response to the science community, who has for a long time decided that we needed to do science on the surface of the moon", Bridenstine said.

More Democrats threaten to withhold support for Pelosi's House Speaker role
She is scheduled to meet with the Problem Solvers on Tuesday. "The first step is showing that she cannot get to 218", said Ms. Another Democratic lawmaker who vowed not to support Nancy Pelosi for House speaker is softening his position.

Remarks made on Thursday, Nov. 29 reinforced NASA's assertion it was returning to the Moon.

NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine and Associate Administrator Thomas Zurbuchen welcome representatives from nine private companies that will be involved in NASA's future missions to the moon and Mars. NASA officials said they did not expect all of the companies to succeed.

The goal is to get science and technology experiments to the surface of the moon as soon as possible, and the first flight could be next year. "That foil collected material from the sun and provided the best measurements of the sun we had for the next 25 years". We think we can achieve this in about 10 years, the idea being prove the capability, retire the risk, prove the human physiology and then go on to Mars. "If you want to learn the age of the solar system, you take samples from the moon and analyze them".

A spokesperson for SpaceX declined to comment on Bridenstine's remarks, the report said. And the agency has some experience with it. Under President George W. Bush, companies were awarded contracts to fly cargo to the International Space Station.

Throughout the past moon missions, astronauts spent only 16 days at six sites on the surface.

NASA managers are hoping the Commercial Lunar Payload Services program will spur development of similar commercial expansion beyond low-Earth orbit, helping NASA establish a permanent presence on or around the moon before eventual flights to Mars. He cited a planned "open architecture" that would allow for a sustained ecosystem among Earth, the moon, and a planned lunar gateway orbiting the moon. Deep Space Systems, which has worked on Orion, Juno, and other NASA missions is also in the mix.
