Amazon is planning to split its new headquarters between two cities

Boyd says Northern Virginia always has been an HQ2 frontrunner and would represent a "safe choice" for Amazon.

The Wall Street Journal reported earlier in the day that Amazon plans to divide its second headquarters evenly between two cities instead of picking one victor.

The Washington Post reported on Saturday that Amazon was in advanced discussions with the Washington suburb of Crystal City, Virginia, for the second headquarters. In January, 20 finalists were announced, 19 in the United States and one in Toronto, Canada. Some hired McKinsey & Co. and other outside consultants to help them with their bids, investing heavily in courting Amazon and its promise of 50,000 jobs. Last year, the REIT submitted plans to Arlington County to expand and repurpose the 240,000-square-foot office building at 1750 Crystal Drive to a residential property. Another will be Long Island City, in the NY borough of Queens, other people said. Second, Amazon makes decisions based on the facts and isn't afraid to change mid-course if the data shows it something new.

The report that Amazon will split its new offices between two locations comes as a surprise.

The Wall Street Journal broke the news over the weekend that Amazon entered into "late-stage talks" with three locations - Dallas, Texas; Arlington, Va.; and New York City.

As usual, the New England Patriots have control over the AFC East, and we are just hitting the midway point of the season. He'll face a Patriots defense that ranks 26th against the pass, allowing 289 yards per game through the air.

The news surrounding Amazon's second headquarters was just breaking yesterday afternoon as Mayor Jenny Durkan wrapped up a press conference following a less-than-ideal federal police reform hearing.

Could the search for Amazon's much-hyped HQ2 finally be coming to a close?

Long Island City and Crystal City would meet Amazon's requirements for a new locale: Both are near metropolitan areas with more than a million people, have nearby global airports, direct access to mass transit and have room for the company to expand.

Dallas is still a contender, the Wall Street Journal reported earlier this week. Their list of costs includes $2.3 billion to extend the 7 train to 11th Avenue, $1 billion in special tax breaks and $1 billion for new parks (including what will be the city's most expensive park per acre). "But the arrival of the new headquarters would nearly certainly mean that home prices would spike in Northern Virginia".

The company's current market value is about $800 billion and analysts estimate Amazon will generate more than $230 billion in sales this year, according to FactSet.
