Migrants Moving Again in Guatemala; Trump Targets Democrats

In response to their deployment, Trump tweeted, "Thank you Mexico", on Thursday, just hours after threatening to deploy the usa military and "close our southern border" - potentially upending a recent trade deal with Mexico and Canada.

In a series of tweets, Trump blamed Democrats, leaders of Central American countries and "existing weak laws" for the influx.

Pompeo's trip came as a caravan of thousands of Honduran migrants prepared to cross the border from Guatemala to Mexico on their northbound journey, drawing warnings from Trump that he would cut aid to the region, deploy the military and close the US-Mexican border if authorities did not stop them.

"I must, in the strongest of terms, ask Mexico to stop this onslaught - and if unable to do so I will call up the U.S. Military and CLOSE OUR SOUTHERN BORDER!", Trump tweeted.

He also threatened to mobilize the USA military and shut down the southern border to stop those migrants from entering the US, reports CBS News correspondent Chip Reid.

Donald Trump has threatened to send the U.S. military to close the border with Mexico in angry early-morning tweets.

A day after warning Central American governments they risked losing USA aid if they didn't do something and saying that anyone entering the country illegally would be arrested and deported, Trump turned his sights on Democrats and urged Republican allies to campaign on border security.

Trump did not detail his military threat, nor his comments on the trilateral trade deal.

Pompeo is headed to meetings inMexico City with a message for leaders there about the massive caravan of migrants: Stop them before they reach the US border.

Lieutenant Colonel Jamie Davis, a Pentagon spokesman, said that while National Guard troops were now supporting the Department of Homeland Security on the U.S. southern border, the Pentagon had not been tasked to provide additional support.

Pompeo is scheduled to meet Fridaywith Peña Nieto and Foreign Minister Luis Videgaray, as well as Lopez Obrador's designated foreign minister, Marcelo Ebrard.

On Thursday, Mexico's Foreign Minister Luis Videgaray called on the United Nations to assist in processing roughly 3,000 Honduran migrants now heading to the country from Guatemala.

Upon reaching Mexico, the migrants must show a valid visa to enter the country, or face deportation, therefore Trump has focused much of his pressure on the Mexican government.

"They have the right to seek asylum at the border", Espinoza-Madrigal said.

Honduran migrants bound to the U.S border climbed into the bed of a truck in Zacapa, Guatemala, Wednesday.

Pompeo's trip to Mexico was planned before the caravan, but Pompeo and other USA officials have said that it will inform his conversations with Mexican officials on Friday.

Many immigrants said they joined the caravan after seeing it covered by Honduran news outlets last week. It was at that time that President Trump deployed National Guard troops along the border and threatened to rip up the North American Free Trade Agreement, or NAFTA.

"We have been here since 4 a.m.", said Veliz.

But in Mexico, where protesters alreadyhave been marching in support of the approaching Honduran migrants, caving to USA pressure wouldn't play almost as well.

Despite their sharp differences, the U.S. and Mexico have made progress on several issues, including the signing of an updated transcontinental trade pact, the U.S. -Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

"In other words before they make the trek across Mexico?"
