There were rumours that the day would be awkward for the mother of the bride due to her restrained relationship with the royals, and particularly Prince Philip.

Singing and cheering well-wishers gathered outside in the streets of Windsor in the shadow of the castle, although there were far fewer people than crammed into the town for Harry's wedding. Charity guests and 1,200 members of the public have been invited into the grounds for the occasion.

She's also said that she'll be "the best" mother-in-law, and can't wait to be a grandmother because she's never grown up herself. "Whether it's rain or sunshine, I have to come down and support her majesty".
