While Moon continues to talk with President Donald Trump, urging him to make peace with North Korea, North Korea plans to take a stronger stance in negotiations with the United States and suggested that Pyongyang will renounce denuclearization until the Korean War is formally brought to an end.

"It shows forward progress and momentum that the secretary is making his fourth trip back in less than a year", Nauert said, noting that the talks marked a positive step toward the Trump administration keeping its promises.

"Everyone recognizes that we have a ways to go and a lot of work that is left to be done", she said.

Both Pompeo and Trump spoke about a second North Korean summit in positive terms last week in NY, while attending the United Nations General Assembly.

The secretary of state will also travel to Japan, South Korea and China, from October 6-8, State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert told assembled reporters.

One week later, Trump held a news conference after the annual gathering of world leaders at the United Nations and praised his efforts to ease tensions and North Korea's cessation of nuclear and missile tests.

"It will be the US and North Korea who will deal with denuclearization firsthand".

Jacqueline R. McAllister, assistant professor of political science, noted that while a bilateral peace agreement could be signed between North and South Korea, an agreement that effectively addresses all issues related to the Korean War would be harder to reach.

Trump paints rapprochement with North Korea as a signature foreign policy achievement, although critics question whether Pyongyang has taken any firm action. Pompeo has been a vocal advocate of maintaining maximum pressure and sanctions on North Korea until it has made clear and significant moves to denuclearize.

The North's official Korean Central News Agency reported later in a short dispatch that a delegation including Choe left to attend negotiations between North Korea and China in Beijing, negotiations between North Korea and Russian Federation in Moscow as well as negotiations involving all three countries.

He said in a statement last month the United States aimed for North Korean denuclearisation by that date, but a week later Trump said he did not have a time frame.

On Tuesday, North Korea's state-run broadcaster again called the demands for a nuclear inventory "rubbish".

"And then we fell in love", he said at a rally in West Virginia Saturday. "I think if our leaders have relatively friendly relations, that that's a good thing", she said.
