The Chicago Cubs lost to the Colorado Rockies in Tuesday night's marathon National League Wild Card Game, ending their postseason run before it could really begin.

"It's Jonny Lester, he's pitched in a few big games before, he's got a resume", said Anthony Rizzo of Lester.

To a man, Cubs players agreed that they shouldn't get a pass for fatigue, but could the accumulation of four straight playoffs, several hard-luck injuries and an unforgiving late-season schedule wear a team down?

Of course it wasn't, and wild was only the tip of the iceberg of adjectives one could use to describe the Rockies' 2-1 win that spanned two days and almost five hours (an actual historically long postseason contest) and shaved unknowable years off all of our lives.

The stakes are much higher for Tuesday night's Wild Card Game as the loser of this playoff sees their season end.

Terrance Gore quickly stole second place, and the Cubs' MVP this year, Javy Baez, delivered his biggest hit of the week - a legged-out double to center to score Gore easily. So that's why they run their mouth a lot, because they know we're the best.

The Brewers will host the victor of the Rockies-Cubs Wild Card Game at Miller Park.

Mexico trade deal text to exclude Canada, irritating U.S. lawmakers
The 1994 pact underpins $1.2 trillion in annual trade and its demise would be enormously damaging, say economists. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has never extended an invitation for a meeting with U.S.

The fact they aren't giving Maddon an extension makes things very interesting.

Ian Happ got to second in the sixth inning on a walk and a one-out single by Kris Bryant.

His lone walk cost him the only run he allowed. But if Gore were to get on by drawing a walk (or being hit by a pitch), it's almost a foregone conclusion that he moves himself into scoring position.

Nolan Arenado, who drove in 110 runs during the regular season, then delivered Blackmon with a deep sacrifice fly. Gore swung and missed at a slider that dove low and outside of the strike zone.

After the double, Lester retired 18 of the final 21 batters he faced, including seven more strikeouts.

Cubs manager Joe Maddon will remain with the team through 2019, president of operations Theo Epstein said in a press conference on Wednesday.
