Colin Kaepernick seals Nike campaign ... and backing from Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

Labor Day - the words superimposed on an image of his face. Even it if it means sacrificing everything.

Nike signed Kaepernick in 2011, and according to ESPN, have not used him in its campaigns since 2016. Now, though, he is the face of a new Nike campaign that was unveiled on Monday.

The #NFL season will start this week, unfortunately once again @Kaepernick7 is not on a NFL roster.

That decision sparked protests across the country, and grown into one of the most polarizing issues in sports, with President Donald Trump loudly urging the league to suspend or fire players who demonstrate during the anthem.

"Colin is not now employed by an NFL team and has no contractual obligations to the NFL", Nike spokesperson Sandra Carreon-John said. The former quarterback began opting out of standing during "The Star-Spangled Banner" in the 2016 pre-season, and continued kneeling throughout the season, with other players from numerous teams doing the same.

Tropical Storm Gordon Is Real Rainmaker For South Florida
Geo Rodriguez chose to go for a walk on Hollywood Beach, north of Miami, on Monday morning and got caught in the storm. A tropical storm warning was also in effect from the Okaloosa-Walton County border west to Morgan City, Louisiana.

Other players followed his lead, as several began to protest a year ago and helped create a number of programs.

Kaepernick recently won a summary judgment in his collusion case, in which arbitrator Stephen Burbank felt there was enough evidence for the case to go to trial. Teams would be fined if players did not stand during the anthem, and the rules allowed individual teams to set their own policies. Nike also will create an apparel line for Kaepernick and contribute to his Know Your Rights charity. He became a free agent at the end of the season, and has remained unsigned. After all, it's worth noting that Nike and the National Football League just re-upped their partnership with Nike providing uniforms and apparel for every National Football League team.

The source says Nike will feature Kaepernick on several platforms, including billboards, television commercials and online ads.

Nike's relationship with the National Football League is also at play here.
