U.S. President Donald Trump's national security adviser John Bolton said on Thursday he had warned Moscow against meddling in the U.S. midterm elections in November during talks with the head of Russia's National Security Council.

Separately related to Syria, Bolton had a warning for Assad as speculation increases over a Russian-backed government assault on northern Idlib province, home to the last major rebel stronghold in the country.

Bolton said that as a "dealmaker", Trump would expect that the Palestinians would say: "Great, so we didn't get that one; now we want something else".

"Let me be clear, the reimposition of the sanctions, we think, is already having a significant effect on Iran's economy and on, really, popular opinion inside Iran", Bolton told Reuters.

"But just so that there's no confusion here, if they Syrian regime uses chemical weapons, we will respond very strongly", Bolton said.

Bolton revealed that Russia's president Vladimir Putin had told president Trump he would be content if Iranian regular and irregular forces would be withdrawn from Syria but that he was not able "to do it himself".

Mr Bolton's comments come after months of pressure from the USA government, following Donald Trump's decision to abandon a global nuclear deal with Iran. However, the United States wants to see a "massive change" in Iranian "belligerence" in the region, he said.

"We remain committed to securing justice for victims of chemical weapons use", they said.

They said the renewed USA sanctions would not be effective unless that step is taken. Farther-reaching sanctions are to follow in November on Iran's banking sector and oil exports.

The situation has been regularly monitored by the Prime Minister on daily basis and he visited the state on August 17-18, 2018. But it was graceful enough to take help even from many poor countries which were usually at the receiving end of American aid.

Previously a vocal advocate of regime change in Iran, Bolton has stressed since taking up his position in the Trump administration a year ago that ousting the Iranian government is not US policy.

The INSS researcher thinks Israel now prefers to ignore the Iranian built-up along its northern border an instead focuses on the prevention of "the consolidation of substantial Iranian military capabilities in Syria".

Bolton also touched on Trump's comments at a rally in Charleston, W.Va., on Tuesday night, during which he said that Israel would "have to pay a higher price" in negotiations with the Palestinians in return for the US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital in May.

The Iranian economy has been beset by high unemployment and inflation and a rial currency that has lost half its value since April.

"I think that's a legitimate act of self-defence on the part of Israel", he said.

On Monday, Chinese buyers of Iranian oil were reported to have begun shifting their cargoes to vessels owned by National Iranian Tanker Co (NITC) for almost all their imports in order to skirt USA sanctions.

Thousands of Iranians have protested against price rises of some food items, a lack of jobs and state corruption. Iran also has proxies in the region, including Lebanon's Hezbollah group.

Iran's Revolutionary Guards on Wednesday said they would strike Israeli cities with missiles if the Islamic country was threatened, the media reported. The protests, having successfully been provoked, are then used by USA officials are "proof" Iran's government isn't meeting the public's expectations.
