MeToo activist Argento settled sex assault complaint

The actor made a United States dollars 380,000 settlement with actor Jimmy Bennett, the accuser who claimed that in 2013, the "XXX" actor assaulted him just after he turned 17, reported The New York Times.

His notice of intent to sue sought $3.5 million in damages for "intentional infliction of emotional distress, lost wages, assault and battery", the paper said. As part of the deal, Bennett, now 22, agreed to give Argento the photograph and its copyright, the paper reported.

The pair acted together in the 2004 film The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things, in which Argento plays Bennett's troubled mother.

Hollywood actor Asia Argento, who was one of the first women to accuse Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault, had reportedly paid a young male actor to make settlements after he accused her of sexual misconduct.

Argento and her attorney did not respond to numerous requests for comment from the New York Times.

Argento became one of the most well-known activists of the #MeToo movement after she told the New Yorker magazine that Weinstein raped her at the Cannes Film Festival in 1997 when she was 21. According to The New York Times, the two have kept in touch based on social media posts in 2013. "We are not going to allow you to get away with it".

The Indian government has pressed in dozens of boats and helicopters to evacuate people from the flooded areas. But the rain has begun to ease in some areas, and a heavy rain forecast remains in place only for a few spots.

Bennett's lawyers had characterised the hotel encounter as a "sexual battery" that traumatised the former child actor, threatening his mental health and income.

Bennett's accusations, and later the arrangement for restitution, are documented in exchanges between Argento and Bennett's respective lawyers, which the Times notes it received from an "encrypted email by an unidentified party".

Asia faced heartache in June when her boyfriend of a year and a half Anthony Bourdain took his own life.

Weinstein has since been charged in NY with first- and third-degree rape and first-degree commission of a criminal sex act.

A spokesperson for the producer said in a statement "any allegations of non-consensual sex are unequivocally denied by Mr. Weinstein".

Asia Argento along with a dozen other women kicked off the avalanche of sexual assault allegations that has been hitting powerful men in the USA movie industry and beyond.
