Regarding the plot, producer Neal Moritz revealed to The Wrap that the movie will follow the buddy cop format, where Sonic teams up with a small town cop (Marsden) to stop Eggman. And now he's getting his own movie, and the actor who will voice the speedy, blue hero has been revealed.

Jeff Fowler is directing the hybrid movie, which will blend live-action and CG elements.

The Sonic The Hedgehog movie by Paramount Pictures is due out at some point next year.

Scwartz, who is now voicing Dewey Duck on Disney Channel's Duck Tales reboot, can next be seen in the Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish comedy Night School.

Schwartz is certainly an in-demand voice actor now, and perhaps not coincidentally, this facet of his career really took off after the actor lent his voice to Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

According to this report from Collider, Adam Pally and Neal McDonough will be joining the cast in yet undisclosed roles.

Schwartz will later be seen this summer in the comedy thriller Blue Iguana. Filming kicked off a month ago with Jim Carrey cast as the villainous Dr. Robotnik and James Marsden as the sheriff of Green Hills, but now we have official confirmation on the casting for the film's most important character. Until today, the title role still had yet to be filled, but we now know who is playing the voice of Sonic the Hedgehog in the upcoming film.
