Meyer's statement marks his first comments since being placed on administrative leave as Ohio State opens an independent investigation into his handling accusations of domestic violence made by Smith's ex-wife, Courtney.

When Ohio State wide receivers coach Zach Smith was sacked in the wake of a May criminal trespass charge and a following domestic violence civil order filed against him by his ex-wife Courtney, his lawyer said Smith wasn't going to talk outside of court.

Smith claimed he had no knowledge of where bruises on his ex-wife Courtney could have come from, and added that coach Urban Meyer and his wife Shelley "weren't really involved" in the 2015 incident. In addition, he also acknowledged his mistake in how he approaches questions during the Big Ten Conference's recent media day. And I did so regarding the Zach Smith incident in 2015. "I take that responsibility very seriously and any suggestion to the contrary is simply false". Meyer's wording left a clear message of the statement's core desire - "I am confident that I took appropriate action...."

"My heart is heavy today as I witness the toll that events of the past week have taken on the Buckeye Family and the university community that I love so dearly", Meyer said.

Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer reacts during the fourth quarter against the Iowa Hawkeyes at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City, Iowa, U.S., November 4, 2017. University officials said Thursday that reporters would be barred from football practices until at least next week and a six-member committee will head up the school's investigation into the matter.

Smith told ESPN it would be "a crime" if Meyer lost his job over this. "I would know it's over'". "I never beat her. Nothing". "My intention was not to say anything inaccurate or misleading". Murphy asks if Meyer should have looked further and Smith said "No, he's not an investigator, he's not a cop, he's not a detective".

Some gun rights groups point out laws allow people to make their own guns now and say this isn't all that different. DeLuz. "It is temporary - and we'll be back in court immediately seeking a preliminary and permanent injunction".

"I know nothing; never had a conversation about that; who would create a story like that & If I (knew) I would have made a change". In a statement, Ohio State said it is "focused on supporting our players and on getting to the truth as expeditiously as possible".

Smith said he told Meyer: "Apparently my ex-wife is trying to get me charged with domestic abuse from incidents that happened years ago and some more recent".

Meyer's statement was read to Zach Smith during his interview with ESPN.

Calling anything in Urban Meyer's statement "honest" and "heartfelt" is pure, unabashed, unadulterated, unconditional garbage. I know nothing about it. If he loses his job, it's flat wrong. In light of his statement, it remains unclear if Meyer will be reinstated, although he closed his statement by saying: "I ask that you continue to support the incredible coaches and student-athletes in our program, and I look forward to rejoining them soon". Meyer has said he and his wife tried to counsel the couple at the time. But for now, out of respect for the ongoing inquiry, I will refrain at this time.

Meyer indicated Friday that he won't be addressing the situation again until there is a resolution.
