HBO, a unit of AT&T Inc, also is in the process of searching for a director and cast for a "Game of Thrones" prequel, Bloys said in response to questions.

The Prince who was Promised, Jon Snow (Kit Harington) will return for the final season.

On Wednesday, HBO programming president Casey Bloys told reporters in LA that while HBO is shooting the pilot for one potential "Game of Thrones" spinoff, there are now no plans to move forward on the four other previously announced ideas.

If you've been dying for any intel on Game of Thrones-literally, we'll take anything at this point!- then have we got some news for you. The show garnered 28 Emmy nominations over its three-season run but ended before reaching a satisfying conclusion for fans. Looking to differentiate itself from the mothership series and coming from a female writer, Goldman, one could presume that the prequel could have a female lead. "It will feel very different because it's 8,000 years before, it's a very different setting, a very different time in Westeros, It will feel different but still Game of Thrones".

As for that one Game of Thrones prequel pilot (out of the five originally ordered), HBO is officially moving ahead with one as previously reported last month.

Bloys today confirmed that pilot was now locking down a director and casting director.

It has been one of those projects we always hoped might happen, but never quite thought would blossom into reality.

"I don't think we've announced a date yet so sometime in '19, how about that", Bloys said, evoking a big laugh from the audience.

Viewers will have to wait until 2019 to see the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones.
