Nishikori put up an admirable fight but was not clinical enough to hold back Djokovic's tide-finally collapsing 6-2 with a third break of the set.

The Serbian won 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 on Centre Court to set up a meeting with either Rafael Nadal or Juan Martin Del Potro in the semi-finals on Friday.

The No 2 seed had looked set for a comfortable afternoon when he won the first two sets, the second on a tie-break.

Yet Djokovic appeared to have more control over the ball than his opponent, and when the set was tied at 3-3, he found another gear.

A year after his 2017 fourth round match was postponed by 24 hours into what is a designated "rest day" for the men, he narrowly avoided suffering the same fate again.

Nishikori, playing Djokovic on grass for the first time and seeking to end a 12-match losing streak against the Serb, held his own in the third set before running out of steam.

Anderson, a 32-year-old South African who played college tennis at IL, served it out, ending things with a 128 miles per hour service victor before raising both arms.

As Djokovic battled to find a way to victory, there then came a key moment.

Novak Djokovic claims he was treated unfairly by chair umpire Carlos Ramos during his quarter-final win over Kei Nishikori to book his spot in the final four at Wimbledon.

Novak Djokovic ended his near two-year absence from grand slam semi-finals by booking a place in the last four at Wimbledon. It's his first Grand Slam final four appearance since 2016, and his eighth career semifinal at the All England Club. The 12-time major victor prevailed despite picking up two code violations and accusing umpire Carlos Ramos of "double standards".

"I just asked him whether he thought honestly that I damaged the court with the racket that I throw".

"I didn't harm the grass, I know how I threw the racket".

A rattled Djokovic lost the second set 6-3 to Nishikori, canceling out his 6-3 win in the first. "The umpire said he didn't see". I get the warning, he doesn't, so it's not fair.

A nagging elbow injury caused him to take an eight-month break from the sport prior to last year's US Open, and he also admitted to having to deal with personal issues.

"It took me two or three months and that was frustrating that I wasn't able to perform the game that I was used to and the level of tennis I wanted to play". It was on Djokovic's serve and 0-40 down, he slowed things up, taking on average 29 seconds to serve, and saved all three break points before closing out the game.
