Under fire for ethics scandals, US EPA chief Pruitt resigns

Scandal-hit Scott Pruitt has resigned as head of the US Environmental Protection Agency.

The senator praised Wheeler previous year when he was nominated to the EPA deputy administrator post, saying, "there is no one more qualified than Andrew to help Scott Pruitt restore EPA to its proper size and scope".

"I'm concerned that the Trump administration's assault on human health and the environment will continue long past Pruitt's departure from EPA", Pallone said.

"Scott Pruitt did an outstanding job inside of the EPA", the president said Thursday. "We have made tremendous progress and the future of the EPA is very bright!"

Mr Trump has praised Mr Pruitt for slashing regulations on the energy and manufacturing industries, including his move to repeal Democratic former president Barack Obama's signature program to cut carbon emissions from power plants, known as the Clean Power Plan.

But at the same time, Pruitt was one of the most effective implementers of the President's agenda. Pruitt, a former Oklahoma attorney general, is often aligned with the oil and gas industry, while Wheeler has focused more on coal since becoming a lobbyist a decade ago. And he came to me and he said 'I have such great confidence in the administration.

Wayne Rooney believes "this could be the year" for England to match the heroes of 1966 and triumph at the World Cup . If they make it past Sweden and into the semifinals, then assume Croatia will be England's most likely opposition.

Pruitt announced his resignation on Thursday, following a barrage of ethics and spending scandals that have overshadowed his time as EPA chief.

Though Trump promised he would drain the swamp when he took over the White House, Pruitt set new swampy records in town, which is saying a lot. That includes a decision to install a $43,000 private phone booth in his office as well as revelations that he asked aides to help his wife find a job with a six-figure salary.

"From moving to roll back strong fuel economy standards, to repealing the Clean Power Plan, to undermining chemical regulation, to suppressing climate science, to advocating for US withdrawal from the Paris climate agreement, Scott Pruitt made the EPA stand for Every Polluter's Ally", he said in a statement. Among the allegations against Pruitt are his use of first-class air travel and enlisting EPA staff for personal matters, including getting his wife a job at Chick-fil-A.

A former lobbyist for Murray Energy, the nation's largest underground coal mining company, Wheeler also worked for Inhofe on efforts to combat climate legislation.

"It has become increasingly challenging for the EPA to carry out its mission with the administrator under investigation", said Barrasso, who is from Wyoming.
