Hot, sticky weather will cling to ME this week

More than 113 million Americans are under heat warnings or advisories, stretching from the Lehigh Valley to Philadelphia, New York, Boston, Baltimore and Washington D.C., according to the National Weather Service's Weather Prediction Center. Fryeburg's high Sunday was 92 degrees, with a heat index of 97 degrees.

Much like days prior, storms will be spotty and provide cooler temperatures, heavy downpours and sporadic lightning for selected areas. Highs will reach the mid to upper 80s this afternoon, near normal for this time of year.

High temperatures are expected to be at or near 90 for Independence Day on Wednesday and again on Thursday.

"Hot and humid conditions will continue across the region through most of this week, including the July 4th holiday as high pressure remains along the eastern seaboard, " forecasters wrote Monday. We should get into the low 90s with a heat index closer to 100 degrees.

Scattered storms will fire in the afternoon Thursday and linger into the overnight.

It suggests working outside in the early morning or evening to avoid the hottest of the day's temperatures and wearing light-weight and loose-fitting clothing to avoid heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

China will counterpunch U.S. with $34 billion in tariffs
Both Chinese and USA business sources in China said there appeared to be little hope that the tariffs could be averted. United States tariffs meant to punish China for allegedly unfair trading practices are due to take effect on Friday.

However, an extended period of highs in the 70s to lower 80s with multiple nights in the 50s is likely July 13-20.

That strong heat dome should finally start to break down slightly by the latter half of next week. These prolonged heat waves are tough to manage, so do keep the water handy and spend as little time in the direct sun as possible.

This weekend is so hot, that it can be downright unsafe; otherwise it's great to enjoy water activities. The front will stall and dissipate over the I-10 corridor, so we will have a better chance for scattered storms.

SUNDAY | Mostly sunny and seasonable.

This weekend brings relief from the humidity and highs in the mid-upper 80s on Saturday with upper 80s-low 90s on Sunday.
