Trent Alexander-Arnold confirmed for England start against Costa Rica

The friendly was played just 11 days before the Three Lions' opening World Cup match in Russian Federation against Tunisia.

The Liverpool defender started the friendly at Elland Road on Thursday night and featured for 64 minutes, as did club colleague Jordan Henderson.

Rashford, who impressed throughout with his speed and control, fired England ahead in the 13th minute, unleashing a dipping drive from the right which flew past Costa Rica keeper Keylor Navas. Nothing that the England manager didn't already know.

England controlled the encounter from that point on and wrapped up victory with 14 minutes to go when Welbeck met Dele Alli's cross with a diving header into the empty net.

Much has been made of the youthful squad who will represent the Three Lions in Russian Federation, which is the youngest England party to travel to a World Cup since Chile in 1962.

In the opening half, with Manchester United forward Rashford influential in the inside-left role, England showed their pace and comfort on the ball but after the interval the game became slower and much less interesting.

It was really not a good game. 'The front four, some of the movement and interplay, we looked a threat with plenty of pace. Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford , making only his third global appearance, hardly had a save to make in the first half.

Will the class of 2018 also crumble mentally?

"I thought today his [Rashford's] linking play was good, his individuality of running at people and taking people on in and around the penalty area was good, and of course it's a wonderful strike for the goal; and he worked incredibly hard for the team to press and shut down".

This is what England need, sending the team up and down the country, playing their home games in front of all members of their fanbase - not just those who live in London and tourists visiting - to bring excitement back into the national game.

"There are some serious decisions to take, but in a really good way".

"I just tried to play free and enjoy myself". We had energy, pressed really well.

Danny Rose and the uncapped Trent Alexander-Arnold should also feature at Elland Road in the final warm-up match before the tournament in Russian Federation. You can see the ability he has to hold people off, his speed of feet and the strength when he is running with the ball.
