So far, 17 people have been rescued while 23 people are still missing.

The incident occurred near Manturu in Devipatnam block of East Godavari district around 5 pm.

An unidentified official at Devipatnam police station said the bodies of eight women, four children and two men were recovered from the cabin of the boat, which sank between Devipatnam and Varapalli areas in the district. The Government will also provide housing, job opportunities to the families. The death toll rose as passengers who were inside the boat could not come out. "Divers broke open the windows and a door to bring out the bodies". East Godavari district Collector Kartikeya Misra, Superintendent of Police Vishal Gunni and West Godavari SP Ravi Prakash are supervising the rescue operations.
