Atletico Madrid CEO Miguel Ángel Gil Marin has angrily shot down rumours of Antoine Griezmann's summer move to Barcelona, calling out La Liga winners over an "absolute lack of respect" in their public courtship of the French forward.

Meanwhile, Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu has now confirmed that he spoke with his agent as early as October previous year, but insisted that his relationship with Atletico remains solid.

"We're fed up with Barcelona's attitude", it began. "You can not talk about players who play at other clubs". Marin's plea followed a report by Cadena Cope radio station that "Barcelona have told Atletico Madrid they are going to pay Antonie Griezmann's get out clause".

"We have always said that winning the Champions League regularly is not the most important thing".

He added he had warned Bartomeu that Atletico would demand compensation for Barcelona's "inappropriate behaviour" if Griezmann sought to cancel his contract under pressure from the Catalan side.

FC Barcelona confirmed talks over a potential move for Atletico Madrid attacking talisman Antoine Griezmann has taken place after initially denying a deal has been struck.

Griezmann was initially linked with Barca a year ago as a possible replacement for Neymar, who joined Paris Saint-Germain for a world-record fee of €222 million. "I'm sorry but I think we have to be cautious about players who don't play for us".
