Govt is committed to double farmers' income by 2022: PM Modi

Intensifying the BJP's campaign bid in the poll-bound state, PM Modi on Thursday addressed three rallies in Kalaburagi, Bellary, and Bengaluru, where he launched a scathing attack against Siddaramaiah-led Congress government in the state and Congress president Rahul Gandhi.

Modi would talk about the initiatives taken by the government for women's empowerment. "If they weren't submitted for approval then strict action should be taken not just against Karnataka BJP but also against the publishers of the newspapers where they have appeared", the complaint said.

Gandhi said that the Prime Minister's crop insurance scheme had made the "farmers suffer" while filling the coffers of the private insurance companies which have made "huge profits". He said, around 3.5 crore farmers have been covered under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, out of which 14 lakh farmers belong to Karnataka. "Grade = F", Rahul tweeted.

Providing data on the developmental works done by both the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Karnataka, Gandhi said, "Dear PM, Calling Bengaluru, the garden city and the pride of India a "garbage city" is insulting".

The Congress chief said the farmers did not receive price of crops at 50 per cent above the Minimum Support Price (MSP).

"Modi came to power on some planks".

Addressing BJP supporters in coastal district of Udupi, PM Modi said, "The disrespect shown towards Shri Deve Gowda ji by Congress leaders and the Congress president around 15-20 days ago is not acceptable".

Stating that the 2018 Assembly elections is a fight between national political parties and a regional party, he said there was need to promote regional parties for a healthy federal set up.

Here we are making a reference to the insanely-popular English drama as the BJP's social media cell seems to be smitten by Game of Thrones and they have this freakish idea that Karnataka is some Winterfell and Ned Stark will come alive one day.

The Congress posted a similar message on its website. "You are insulting him", Modi had said.
