Trump attacks 'slime ball' James Comey for 'lying' in his memoirs

President Donald Trump renewed his attack on James Comey Sunday after the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director said his belief Hillary Clinton would probably win the 2016 presidential race may have played a role in his handling of the Clinton emails probe.

"I never asked Comey for Personal Loyalty".

Trump fired Comey in May 2017, claiming initially that he was unhappy with Comey's handling of the Clinton emails probe but subsequently claiming in a television interview that the decision was based on Comey's decision to pursue an investigation into Trump's alleged collusion with Russian Federation.

He questioned Comey's intelligence and place in history, writing, "Slippery James Comey, a man who always ends up badly and out of whack (he is not smart!), will go down as the WORST FBI Director in history, by far!"

The President also gave a mini review of his own, saying the big questions Mr Comey poses are not answered. There is no indication Comey is under investigation for doing either.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said: "The American people see right through the blatant lies of a self-admitted leaker".

Friday's protesters are part of the Great Return March, a 45-day series of events planned to culminate on May 15, Nakba day. On Friday, most demonstrators assembled in five tent camps located several hundred meters (yards) from the border fence.

While criticism from President Donald Trump isn't new to Comey, the president used new descriptors for him after the first clip of Comey's exclusive interview with ABC News' chief anchor George Stephanopoulos was released Friday morning.

The President has been highly critical, and public with his criticism, of Mr Comey since firing him in May previous year over his handling of the FBI investigation into Mrs Clinton's emails and the inquiry into Russian interference in the election.

Mr Mueller's probe has expanded to include whether Mr Trump obstructed justice by firing Mr Comey, something the President denies. Mr. Trump added, in a jab at Lynch and Clinton's claims that Clinton saw the attorney general on the tarmac and boarded her plane to say hello. Trump called Comey an "untruthful slime ball" in a tweet and wrote that "it was my great honor to fire" him.

In the interview excerpt released Saturday, Comey said he did not remember "consciously thinking" about the election results as he chose to disclose that the FBI had reopened its investigation into candidate Clinton's email use. Democrats, on the other hand, have accused Comey of politicizing the investigation. "I don't remember consciously thinking about that, but it must have been because I was operating in a world where Hillary Clinton was going to beat Donald Trump, and so I'm sure that it was a factor", he said.

"3 presidents are in my book: 2 help illustrate the values at the heart of ethical leadership; 1 serves as a counterpoint", he wrote.
